The First Post

One of my new year’s resolutions was to start a blog. I have wanted to start a blog for ages but never really got around to registering a domain name and spending time on a writing content.

My first attempt at blogging went quite well. One of my posts was on the font-page of Digg and I recieved hundreds of comments and good feedback from it. I wish I had been consistent on writing content for the site. I neglected it far too much and months later, it was fully abandoned. This time around, I am quite serious about blogging and developing an online presence.

I have found that most employers do a Google search about shortlisted candidates before they’re called in for an interview (hoping to find any naughty things they’ve done in the past). Hopefully, my future employers will stumble upon this site and see what I have been up to (and hopefully not see the facebook photos where I am tagged).

The design

I designed the site in a hurry. A rough job that took just 2 days. I know there are many rough edges here and there. Also there is a big scope for improvements. In the coming months, I will be making slight changes to the design now and then. Here’s my todo list:

New background. I am working on a new background image that vastly improves the site presentation.
Branding enhancement with shadows. My personal “brand” needs to be revamped.
Rollover state for Subscribe button
Typography enhancements
Show last twitter update on the font page
Content formatting styles (code highlight, quotes, downloads, image presentation)
Comments display. I am not quite happy with it. A redesign will be coming soon.
Optimise code.

The content

Content is king. I am using mind-mapping to come up with new and interesting things to write about. Here are few of the topics that I want to blog about:

CSS solutions and tricks
Javascript/AJAX tutorials
Photography.
Web Services. I have the habit of signing up to every online service I see. Looking forward to reviewing a few services I use regularly.
Linux and Mac. I love penguins and apples.

With that I conclude my first post in my new blog. Looking forward to starting a great adventure.
